How To : File An Auto Insurance Claim
When you file your auto insurance claim, the first thing you should do after an auto accident, is to ask yourself if you should file a claim or not. This is because most insurance companies record any activities on your policy. These are then recorded in your insurance record. So, even if just to ask a simple question about the possibility of you filing a claim, that will then be reflected on your insurance record. And you know what it means when you have many records on your insurance history. So, really it does not matter who was at fault in the accident. The most important thing is for you to assess if paying for the damage out of your own pocket is more practical or if claiming your insurance is really worth a record on your insurance policy.
Now if you think that you should claim your insurance or if there is no way for you to pay for the damage except your insurance, then the next thing you should do is to fill out the auto accident worksheet. This will allow you to keep track of the information about the accident for your insurance claim. It is also important to have a witness who will be willing to back up your story should your insurance company require it to be. After filling out the auto accident worksheet, you should immediately file it to your insurance provider even if the accident was not your fault.
Now after you have filed the claim to your insurance company, be prepared to answer any questions from your insurance provider and from the other driver’s insurance provider. Usually, especially in a dispute, the other driver’s insurance provider will call you up and ask you questions about the accident. So now if they give you a call, you should document what you said and always ask the name of the person you are giving out the information about the accident.
Now once your claim is approved, your insurance company will then send an adjuster to assess the actual damage to your vehicle. The adjuster then will assess it and your insurance will then have your vehicle finally fixed. Now sometimes, instead of sending an insurance adjuster, you will be asked to simply send your car to one of their pre-approved shop. Either way, you will then have your car in no time.
